Launching a scathing attack on the Congress, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said the country was now opting for “India first” over “family first” and “development” over “dynasty”.

Addressing a rally in favour of BJP’s Chandigarh candidate Kirron Kher and SAD’s Anandpur Sahib nominee Prof Prem Singh Chandumajra, he said the nation was electing a strong government and not a helpless one. “One that hits terrorists in their den and not the one that got scared by empty threats of Pakistan,” he added.

He said DBT under the NDA government meant the direct benefit transfer scheme, while it stood for the “direct bicholiya transfer” scheme earlier. Modi said his government had identified “eight crore fake bank accounts and saved taxpayers’ money” that used to go into the pockets of middlemen and fake beneficiaries.

The PM also lashed out at the Congress for shifting IPL tournament venues outside India during the Lok Sabha poll previously. “Then the government showed helplessness saying the IPL and LS poll cannot be held simultaneously. What if there is a bomb blast, what will happen to Manmohan Singh? Thus, IPL matches were shifted to other countries. See the 2019 government of a chaiwala and the magic of a chowkidar. Elections and IPL were held simultaneously,” he said.

He also used Sam Pitroda’s “hua toh hua” remark to attack the Congress.
