A farmer died of fire injuries while trying to douse the flames near his fields in Margindpur, Nikki Makhi, 35 km from here, on Saturday night. Sub-Inspector Jhilmil Singh, SHO, Kacha Pakka police station, said deceased had been identified as Hari Singh (50). The SHO said the deceased saw crop residue near his fields on fire and, fearing that it would engulf his crop residue as well, he tried to douse the flames, but accidentally got into it. Since it was late night hours, no one noticed him burning. The deceased's bike too got charred.The deceased, a small farmer, had just 6 kanals of land.

The SHO said no case was registered yet. Some miscreant may have lit fire in stubble.
