No water, no votes, warn Abohar residents

Abohar: Residents of Ward No. 2, also known as Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, on Thursday protested against the failure of the Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board in draining out the sewage accumulated due to the faulty system. They said: “In case the issue is not solved, we will boycott the polling on May 19.” Meanwhile, farmers from neighbouring Pattisadiq and villages assembled on the Lambi minor bridge, which emanates from the segment represented by the Badals in Muktsar district, and raised slogans against the state government for the insufficient water supply. Officials, however, said the desilting machines were pressed into service in some other affected localities, so the problem in Ward No. 2 would be resolved soon. OC

During campaigning, traffic violations galore

Chandigarh: The Patiala Foundation and Avoid Accident Forum in a memorandum submitted to the Chief Electoral Officer, S Karuna Raju, on Thursday said traffic violations due to roadshows by various parties and candidates had been rampant in the state. Ravi S Ahluwalia and Harpreet Sidhu on behalf of the foundation told the CEO that while granting permission for such roadshows, provision for ambulance and its designated path must be ensured in advance.
