Bathinda, May 8

Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh on Wednesday held a meeting with party workers here on Wednesday morning. The Chief Minister boosted their morale ahead of polling on May 19.

Addressing the workers, he said, “The previous SAD-BJP government left the financial condition of the state in a mess. Finance minister Manpreet Singh Badal and I are working on bringing the economy back on track.”

Capt Amarinder said Bathinda had to vote out “arrogant” and “anti-Punjab” Harsimrat Kaur Badal decisively. He urged the workers to put all their weight behind Congress candidate Amrinder Singh Raja Warring to campaign against the SAD leader aggressively.

Accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of not fulfilling any promise, the Chief Minister said the Prime Minister had been fooling people with his ‘jumlas’ and making efforts to take credit for the victory of armed forces only to divide the nation.

“The Modi government did nothing for any section of society, particularly for farmers who are facing a lot of problems due to their anti-farmer policies. It was the Congress government in Punjab which came to the farmers’ rescue with the loan waiver scheme,” he said, adding that Rahul Gandhi had also promised to waive the debts of farmers across the country after coming to power.

The Chief Minister said, “The Congress is in the DNA of Bathinda (Urban) residents. It is the reason why the Congress always leads from here and this time as well, I am sure that it will break its previous records of votes.”

Making it clear that the SIT has not given a clean chit to Prakash Singh Badal in sacrilege cases, he said the probe was on and IG Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh would be back in the SIT immediately after the elections to take it to its logical conclusion.

He reiterated that the law would take its course and guilty would not be spared irrespective of their position or role.

On the occasion, Capt Amarinder also met his old colleague from the Army Capt (Retd) Mall Singh. In the 1965 war, Mall Singh had sustained several bullet injuries as part of Charlie Company, while Capt Amarinder fought from Delta.
