Sangrur, April 28

Alleging delay in the purchase of wheat, farmers, under the banner of BKU Ugrahan, on Sunday blocked the Sangrur-Bathinda road at the Handiaya T-point. They refused to lift the protest till wheat is purchased in all grain markets of the district.

“We have been sitting in the Farwarhi village grain market for the last many days but government officials are delaying the purchase of wheat saying it has moisture beyond the permissible limit. But they are saying so without conducting any checks,” alleged Kulwant Singh, a protesting farmer.

Another farmer Satwant Singh alleged that government officials were harassing them without any valid reasons and had not made any arrangements in the grain markets. —TNS
