The INLD and JJP-AAP candidates from Kurukshetra, accompanied by senior leaders of their parties, filed their nomination papers on Tuesday.

Addressing a public gathering before filing the papers, INLD’s Arjun, accompanied by his father Abhay Chautala, read out a letter written by his grandfather Om Prakash Chautala. “I assure you that Arjun will follow in the footsteps of Chaudhary Devi Lal,” the first-time nominee said quoting from the letter.

Arjun hit out at the BJP for the violence in Panchkula following the conviction of Sirsa dera head. “The BJP has held the Sirsa dera and its followers responsible for the Panchkula incident. How can they be blamed? The government knew that the law and order problem would arise. Still, the government allowed dera followers to oragnise a sit-in days before the verdict was announced.”

Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) leader Dushyant Chautala accompanied his party’s candidate DD Sharma to the election office to file the nomination.

Dushyant said, “There is a sense of panic among the BJP and Congress as the JJP has been getting a good response. The JJP-AAP alliance will bring a change in the state.”

To a query regarding Arjun, he said: “Except for the JJP’s candidate, no other nominee in Kurukshetra knows the number of villages in the constituency.”
