Gurugram, April 23

Virender Rana of the INLD and JJP-AAP candidate Mehmood Khan filed their nominations on Tuesday. Both nominees said they wanted to make Gurugram cosmopolitan in a true sense.

Hailing from Bajghera village, Rana owns a software company earlier based in the USA. He was fielded to meet the expectations of the IT and BPO industry in Gurugram.

He said he wanted Gurugram to continue to remain an IT and BPO destination despite the challenges posed by other countries.

Mewat resident and IIM-Ahmedabad graduate Khan had worked in the corporate world for nearly four decades, after which he moved back to Nai Nangla village. After retiring as global leader of innovation at Unilever-London in 2009, he returned to his village. He was now running a non-profit organisation working towards rural education and development.

“I have realised that what is being offered is far away from what Gurugram truly wants. Infrastructure is in a bad shape, pollution is high and there is no solution to manage solid waste. Now IT firms and BPO industries are shifting abroad, causing a major loss to the state and the country,” said Rana.

“I am in favour of inclusive growth. Infrastructure should not be confined to swanky Gurugram. It should reach every nook and corner, including the rural backwaters of Mewat,” said Khan.

JJP’s Deswal for positive politics

Rohtak: Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) candidate from Rohtak Pradeep Deswal filed his nomination here on Tuesday. Deswal (32), a student of law at Maharshi Dayanand University, took out a roadshow. Talking to mediapersons after filing his nomination, Deswal said he would pursue positive politics and make efforts to address concerns of farmers, workers and the youth. TNS
