Amritsar, April 23

Seeking re-election from the Amritsar Lok Sabha constituency, Congress’ sitting MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla today filed his nomination papers following a roadshow here today.

Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, who was to accompany Aujla as per the previously announced schedule, cancelled his visit to the city at the eleventh hour.

Nevertheless, the Congress managed to put up a united show. Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria, Raja Sansi MLA, Education Minister OP Soni, MLA Raj Kumar Verka and Dr Navjot Kaur Sidhu accompanied Aujla to the office of Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Vikas Hira to submit the nomination papers. Sarkaria along with MLA Harpratap Singh Ajnala had been opposing Aujla’s re-nomination as the party candidate. The roadshow, in which a large number of local leaders and workers participated, commenced from Gumtala bypass and concluded at Court chowk.

Holding flags and raising slogans, Congress workers accompanied the leaders who were moving in an open vehicle decorated with flowers.

Among others, MLAs Inderbir Singh Bolaria and Sunil Datti, Mayor Karamjit Singh Rintu, Congress Mahila wing president Mamta Dutta, district Congress president Jatinder Sonia, senior leader Sukhjinder Raj Singh Lalli Majithia and Senior Deputy Mayor Raman Bakshi were also present.
