Muktsar: A day after two boys of Madrassa village near here were feared drowned into Chandbhan drain, the body of one of them was fished out on Monday. The deceased was identified as 11-year-old Ajay Singh. His friend Arik Singh (15) is yet to be traced. The district administration has called some divers from Bathinda to trace the boys. They had jumped into drain to beat the heat on Sunday. TNS

Patient’s kin allege rape at Fazilka hospital

Fazilka: A 24-year-old woman has alleged that she was raped by an employee of a private hospital in Fazilka in the wee hours of Sunday. The victim is a resident of Guruharsahai subdivision of Ferozepur. She said she had gone to a private hospital to enquire about the health of her brother. She alleged that a hospital employee, Harbans, allegedly raped her around 3 am on the institute premises on Sunday. The accused has been booked under Sections 376 and 506 of the IPC and is said to be at large. OC

Drug peddlers nabbed, contraband seized

Abohar: Rani of Bhisiana and Banso of Behman Diwana village in Bathinda were arrested on Monday under the NDPS Act in Hanumangarh. The police said 10.5 kg of poppy husk was seized from them. The Hanumangarh police also seized 50 gm of heroin from Yaseen Khan of Jandwali village. The police seized 2.5 kg of poppy husk from Sajan Mangi and Kashmir Singh, of Pucca seed Farm colony. The Excise Department and police carried a joint raid by cordoning off the area around Chanankhera sub-canal and destroyed about 30,000 litres of "lahan". OC

SGPC puts up portraits of Waryam, Jogi at museum

Amritsar:  The SGPC has installed portraits of two prominent Sikh personalities — Giani Waryam Singh Dhurkot and kavishar Giani Joga Singh Jogi at Central Sikh Museum in the Golden Temple complex on Monday. Their portraits were unveiled by SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal in the presence of the Golden Temple's head priest Giani Maan Singh. Longowal said the contribution of Giani Waryam Singh and Giani Joga Singh Jogi for propagating Sikhism could not be ignored as they were the source of inspiration for the younger generation. TNS

291 miss poll duty rehearsal, get notice

Sangrur:  Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori on Monday issued show-cause notices to 291 government employees, who remained absent during the first rehearsal for election duty on April 21. "All 291 absent employees have been asked to submit their replies by April 25. If anyone fails to give satisfactory reply, he would face stern action," the DC said. TNS
