Charges not framed so far, gangrape case deferred

The Court of Special Judge Rashmi Sharma on Monday adjourned the hearing in the gang rape case of a 21-year-old girl near Issewal village. The charges against the accused could not be framed as one of the six accused was not represented by any lawyer.

All accused, including Sadiq Ali of Mukandpur, Nawanshahar, Jagroop Singh of Jaspal Bangar village, Surmo of Khanpur village, Dehlon, Saif Ali of Dehlon and Ajay of Jassad Paddi village, Ludhiana, were present during the court hearing.

Special Public Prosecutor BD Gupta represented the prosecution. The woman was gangraped on February 9 near Issewal village on the banks of Sidwan canal, about 15 km from Ludhiana, after the car she was travelling in with her friend was stopped and she was dragged out. The identification parade of suspects was done at the local central jail under the supervision of a Judicial officer on February 22, in which the victim identified all accused.
