Panipat, April 21

Five persons, including an Exemptee Head Constable (EHC), have been booked on the charge of hatching a conspiracy and stealing some documents from the house of Mahender Chawla, a prime witness in cases against self-styled godman Asaram Bapu and his son Narayan Sai.

The alleged incident of stealing was recorded in CCTV cameras installed in the house of the complainant, Chawla, in Sanoli Khurd village of the district.

Chawla, in his police complaint, said EHC Punit had entered his house on Friday last week around 7.30 pm by breaking open the locks and stole some documents. “The face of Punit is clearly visible in the footage,” he said.

He further alleged the accused — Punit, Sanoli Khurd sarpanch Priyanka Sharma, her father-in-law Surender Sharma, former sarpanch Sunil Tyagi and Pappu, alias Rajender — had hatched a conspiracy to implicate him in false cases.

All five accused have been booked under Sections 380, 457 and 120-B of the IPC.
