526 students take entrance for Meritorious School

JALANDHAR: A total of 526 students from the district today appeared in the entrance examination for the Meritorious School on Sunday.

A total of 526 students from the district today appeared in the entrance examination for the Meritorious School on Sunday. The exam was held at Government Model Senior Secondary School, Ladowali road, and Government Model (Co-ed) Senior Secondary School. Around 568 students had filled the forms for the entrance exam but 42 remained absent.

The two hour test started at 12 noon. There were two flying teams, headed by the District Education Officer (DEO) Harwinder Pal Singh.

The eligibility to apply for admission was reduced from 80 per cent to 70 per cent marks for the General category. The minimum requirement for SC/ST students has been kept at 65 per cent.

“The exam was balanced and we are hoping to get admission into the meritorious school,” some of the students said after the entrance exam.

Notably, there are around 500 seats for three different streams, including 100 for medical, 300 for non-medical and 100 for commerce. The boys to girls ratio has been kept at 60: 40.
