Jammu, April 21

The Shiromani Gurmat Granthi Ragi Sabha, Jammu, on Sunday held a congregation at Gurdwara Baba Fateh Singh, Gandhi Nagar, and distributed books, uniforms, school bags and other stationery items.

The sabha has been following the ritual since the past six years and supporting the unprivileged and economically weaker children of society.

Nearly 150 children were given stationery and uniform items, while many students were adopted for studies in various schools, the fee of which would be paid by the sabha.

A beneficiary from Simbal More, RS Pura said since last year, she had been receiving books from the sabha which had given her courage and conviction to study hard and become an informed person in society. “I yearn to become a teacher and serve people,” said Manpreet Kour, a Class IV student. Bhai Harbans Singh, president of the sabha, said the gurdwara was open for all children irrespective of class, creed, colour or religion. “No distinction is done between children of any community and any child from any community, be it Hindu, Sikh, Muslim, Dalit or any class, can reach out to the sabha for help,” he said. — TNS
