Panchkula, April 21

Congress candidate from the Ambala Lok Sabha constituency Kumari Selja got a shot in the arm when a senior BJP leader, Shashi Sharma, left the party to join the Congress today.

While addressing two public rallies near the houses of Shashi Sharma and Suresh Garg in Sector 2 and 24, respectively, Selja attacked sitting MP Rattan Lal Kataria stating that Kataria had been missing from the constituency for the past five years as he had failed to address the grievances of people.

She said as the elections were drawing closer, Kataria was now again trying to build contacts with people to garner votes for himself. She said if Kataria had worked for the development of the area, then he would have sought votes in the name of development. But he had failed to bring a single project for the constituency.

Selja said during her tenure, she had established the Institute of Fashion Technology at a cost of 100 crore and the construction of National Highway from Zirakpur to Parwanoo was approved at a cost of Rs 412 crore.

Sharma, while announcing to join the Congress, said he would play a crucial role to ensure Selja’s win in the Lok Sabha elections by a huge margin. It is pertinent to mention here that Sharma had contested the Assembly seat from Panchkula on the Haryana Janhit Congress ticket. Later, he joined the BJP and was considered as the main leader in the party.
