Soft music, meaningful lyrics that leaves a deep imprint on your mind! Well, that pretty much sums up Jasleen Royal’s songs. And the latest Deh Shiva from Kesari is no different.
Her debut song Panchi Hojavan, a poem by Shiv Kumar Batalvi, picturised the dreams and aspirations of the common people and simultaneously encapsulated her own dream of becoming a popular singer. She produced three singles and one of them was used in Anushka Sharma-starrer Phillauri. She is an independent artiste, self made much like Muraad from Gully Boy. And she has not only sung a song Jahaan Tu Chala for Zoya Akhtar but also did a cameo in the movie.
Jasleen Royal, one-woman band, a title given by Kirron Kher when she appeared in the show India’s Got Talent in 2009. Her brother like any elder brother of a successful star was a constant support while she was competing in the show or even when she moved to Mumbai to fulfil her dreams. “When I moved to Mumbai, I shared a room with two girls. As they were Punjabi, I never felt lonely,” she said, adding, “And now my dog Kobe keeps me company. Jasleen has always been conscious about fitness and works out regularly to keep herself fit.
Music, for her, is an expression of herself. She considers herself lucky that Indian music industry welcomed her with open hands. After singing for Alia Bhatt’ in Dear Zindagi, she has been working continuously. “I am a workaholic. So, it never felt like a burden” and she enjoyed every bit of her journey in the industry. She does take some time out for herself in the month of July ever year which happens to be her birthday month. Jasleen hopes that someday she will get a chance to sing or collaborate with AR Rahman.
