Factionalism in the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) was being witnessed due to the ongoing land dispute between Dhesi brothers and Makkar brothers.

During the ongoing land dispute between Senior Akali leader Jaspal Singh Dhesi and Jalandhar Cantt Halka in-charge Sarabjit Singh Makkar, the father of Dhesi, Tanmanjit Singh Dhesi, who is the UK Parliament member, have refused to support the SAD candidate, Charanjit Singh Atwal till the solution of the land dispute, which is being lingering on due to the inaction of the party High Command.

Addressing SAD activists at his residence in Phagwara here today evening, Jaspal Singh Dhesi and his younger brother Paramjit Singh Raipur (SGPC member) said: “Though the SAD candidate Atwal met them to get their support but they both will not support him till the high command resolve the issue. Both Dhesi and Raipur urged the high command to remove Sarabjit Makkar from the post of Halka In charge till then.

SAD activists from Adampur, Rama Mandi, Phagwara,Wadhala and several surrounding villages , openly supported Dhesi and alleged that the Makkar family had illegally encroached the plot of Dhesi at Jalandhar, but the SAD leadership is tight-lipped on the issue.

Jaspal Singh Dhesi, while narrating the case told the SAD, that though with the intervention of the SAD president Sukhbir Badal the issue was settled amicably during in the last assembly elections, but the settlement was violated by Makkar family.

He said his younger brother Paramjit Singh Raipur, member, SGPC, met the SAD High Command again few months ago and the High Command constituted a two-member committee comprising Daljit Singh Cheema and Gurpartap Singh Wadhala, but nothing could be initiated in this regard.
