Jalandhar, April 20

Due to the continuous protest by Public Works Department (PWD) workers, against the termination of 130 outsource lift operators, the government today assured the members of the Union that a meeting in this regard would be held on April 22.

From the past 10 days PWD Electrical Outsourcing Employees’ Union had been organising protest in the city against the illegal termination of employees on April 1 without any prior notice. The union leaders said, the workers had been working in the department from the past 10-12 years. Amit Sharma, the spokesperson of the union said, they had also scheduled to strike at the Mini-Secretariat office in Patiala on Saturday. However, they had to postpone the strike due to the letter forwarded to them by the officials concerned that their demand would be heard and a meeting would be held with the union on April 22.

Sharma also stated that if the PWD officials failed to do so, then they would intensify their protest. — TNS
