According to eyewitnesses, near the Noshehra road, the tractor-trailer collided with their scooter and both were seriously injured. Vivek lost one of his legs in the mishap. They were taken to a local hospital from where they were referred to a super specialty hospital. Vivek is under treatment at the DMC, Ludhiana, and Sukhmanjit at another hospital in Hoshiarpur.

In a statement given to the police, deceased’s uncle Bhupinder Kumar, a resident of Kang Mai, said Vinay Kumar (21) was staying in Kang Mai with them for 10 years. Today he left for Hariana on his motorcycle for some work. He (Bhupinder) was also going with him on the former’s motorcycle. When they reached near Simran dharam kanda, a rashly driven car coming from the Hariana side reportedly hit a man, Jaswinder Singh of Hajipur, who was sitting on a table kept outside a kiosk on the roadside. The car driver was driving the vehicle on the wrong side of the road. The victim got seriously injured in the mishap.

Afterwards, when the driver tried to flee the spot, the car hit his nephew’s motorcycle. Vinay died on the spot and the car driver escaped from the spot. On the basis of Bhupinder’s statement, the police have filed an FIR against the car driver under Sections 337, 304-A, 279 and 427 of the IPC.
