Amritsar, April 20

Reminding the pain and loss of the families of martyrs of Jallianwala Bagh massacre, a play, titled Jallianwala Bagh, was staged at the art gallery in collaboration with the North Zone Cultural Centre. The play, presented by Chandigarh-based Alankaar Theatre Group, has been written by Gaurav Kumar and Akash.

The play opened with the happenings of the fateful day of April 13, 1919. Through the play, the writers reflected on the brutality of the British officials, who were involved in the decision leading to General Dyer ordering cold blooded murder of innocent lives. “The play was sensitively made to remind the people that incidents like these should never be forgotten and become an example to inspire generations against state oppression,” said Gaurav Kumar.

Arvinder Chamak, general secretary, IAFA, said the play was staged as part of ongoing centenary celebrations of Jallianwala Bagh massacre. “It was an attempt to pay tribute to the martyrs and remember the incident as the most gruesome one yet significant to nationalist movement.”
