Chandigarh, April 20

A special team of the police have arrested two motorcycle thieves. The accused have been identified as 20-year-old Sagar, alias Belan, a resident of Tin Colony, Sector 52, and Vikas, alias, Kalu, a resident of Kajheri village. In a complaint to the police, Karan Sharma, a resident of Kajheri village, said he had parked his black Splendor in front of his house on April 12. Next morning, he saw that his motorcycle was missing. A case under Sections 379 and 411 of the IPC was registered at the Sector 36 police station.

 The police recovered the stolen motorcycle from their possession, along with another Splendor which was stolen from Mohali. 

The police said the accused were drug addicts and used to smell correction fluid. They used to steal new vehicles, especially two-wheelers, for joy riding.  

 Modus operandi

The accused were acquainted with the area of crime and used to conduct recce in odd hours. They targeted vehicles which were parked outside houses. They had a tool kit, including duplicate/master key, screwdrivers, wire cutter and other equipment. They also knew how to break locks and start the vehicle without any key.
