Karnal, April 20

Sanjay Bhatia, BJP candidate from Karnal, filed his nomination in the presence of Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar in the office of returning officer Vinay Partap Singh here on Saturday.

A commerce graduate, Bhatia (51) had contested Assembly elections from the Panipat Urban seat in 2004 and 2009.

Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister, along with eight MLAs and two Mayors of Karnal and Panipat, addressed a gathering. Bhatia promised overall development of Karnal and Panipat districts.

Khattar blamed first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru for the Kashmir issue. Khattar said Nehru was responsible for Article 370, which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir.

The Chief Minister took a dig at the delay in announcement of candidates. He claimed that opposition parties did not have candidates to contest the elections. He took a dig at the alliance between the JJP and AAP, saying those who had lost ground were making an alliance for their survival.
