The district police recovered more than Rs 22 lakh from a van on the Chandigarh road here today.
The police said the van occupants could not produce the documents related to the cash, following which the case was handed over to the Income Tax Department.
Singh village police station Station House Officer (SHO) Jagjit Singh said a police party deployed at a naka on the Chandigarh road found Rs 22,00,828 in the van around 11 am.
The occupants of the van claimed that the money was brought from a toll plaza, Jagjit Singh said. They, however, could not produce any document in this regard, the SHO said.
