Nine booked for assaulting boy

Ludhiana: The Division No. 5 police have booked several persons on the charge of attacking a 17-year-old school boy. Complainant Chanpreet Singh of Pakhowal Road told the police that Rahul Sharma of Model Town had abused him in WhatsApp group. Later, when he protested Rahul felt sorry and called him on the Ferozepur road for reaching a compromise. On April 17, when he went there, Rahul along with his friends Rohit, Jassa, Samir, Piyush, Prince and three unknown persons attacked him with sharp weapon. In the melee, one of his fingers was chopped off. Investigation officer, ASI Baljit Singh, said the victim was admitted to the Civil Hospital and raids were on to nab the suspects. TNS

Saanjh Kendra burgled

Ludhiana: Thieves decamped with 16 UPS batteries, LED TV, BSNL broadband modem, and some other valuables from the Saanjh Kendra in Sahnewal tehsil. Pawan Kumar, in charge of the Saanjh Kendra, stated that on April 18, when computer operator Bhupinder went to open the centre, he was shocked to see broken locks. When the operator went inside he found that thieves had decamped with most electronic goods lying at the centre. The police have started a probe and scanning the CCTV cameras to get clue about burglars. TNS

Travel agent booked for fraud

Ludhiana: The Daresi police have booked a travel agent for duping a resident of Rs 2.57 lakh on the pretext of sending him abroad. The suspect has been identified as Balwinder Kumar of Rurka village, Jalandhar. The complainant in the case, Gurpreet Singh, a resident of Arjan Nagar stated that the suspect had promised to arrange a work permit of Jordan for him on payment of Rs 2.57 lakh, but he failed to do so. Now, he also refused to return the money, the complainant added. The police have registered a case and launched a manhunt to arrest the suspect. TNS 

Man booked for kidnapping minor 

Ludhiana: The Division No. 5 police have booked a man on the charge of kidnapping a 16-year-old minor girl. The suspect has been identified as Sawan, a resident of Jain Colony. Complainant Veena Rani of the Railway Colony stated that her daughter Meenu’s marriage was to be solemnised on April 22. “My daughter’s friend Sawan kidnapped her on the pretext of marrying her,” she added. After registering a case, the police have launched a manhunt to recover the girl. TNS

Direct tax conclave

Ludhiana: An informative Direct Tax Conclave–2019 was organised by the Ludhiana branch of the Northern India Regional Council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India at ICAI Bhawan, Pakhowal Road, Ludhiana. The event was started by Ludhiana branch secretary CA Balpreet Malwa and welcome address was given by Ludhiana branch chairman CA Sandeep Gupta, who shared the initiatives to be taken by the branch for the members. CA Pramod Jain and advocate Kapil Goel were the guest speakers on the occasion. CA Pramod Jain spoke on ‘Recent Changes in ITR Forms and Capital Gains on Immoveable Property’. TNS

Study circle meeting held

Ludhiana: The District Taxation Bar Association (DTBA) organised a study circle meeting in which detailed information about Sections 73, 74, 129 and 130 of the GST Act was provided. The meeting was organised in the presence of members of the DTBA and Jagmohan Bansal from the Chandigarh High Court. According to Section 73, if any mistake happens during generation of invoice, then there is 25 per cent penalty. TNS
