Gurnaaz Kaur

They were together for a private coaching. He had a crush on her, whereas she didn’t even know he was in the same batch as hers. After one year, when they met through common friends, it lit a spark. Soon, they started dating and after eleven years, these school-time lovers became man and wife. Vrinda Khattar, a teacher and Surya Khattar, a businessman, make a beautiful couple. Here’s their story.

School-time lovers

Vrinda: So, we were at the same coaching centre. I didn’t even notice him till the end of Class 11. Suddenly we had the same group of friends. We met each other once or twice and then one day out of the blue he just sent me this letter asking me out. It was an instant yes...

Surya: She was the tallest in her group and used to wear a pink jacket. My eyes never left her. We started dating when I proposed to her with a letter on the 9th of February on a rainy afternoon.

Time to get hitched

Vrinda: In our first year of dating itself I knew that he was the one for me. His and my side of family knew about our relation and we were settled in our respective fields. Things seemed perfect and we decided it was time. So, after dating for more than 10 years, we got married on November 11, 2017.

Surya: The day I proposed, I knew I wanted to marry this girl. After dating for about 11 years we got hitched on the 11th November, 2017.

Changes here and there

Vrinda: I wouldn’t say that it has changed a lot but yes it is definitely different. Now, I have another set of loving parents and as a husband, he is more caring and loving than ever. We do so many more things together as a couple, which makes them all the more special.

Surya: Life after marriage has been amazing. I am enjoying everything that has changed whether it is big or small.

The perfect way of living

Vrinda: We used to meet each other almost every day before marriage and when he used to drop me home I couldn’t wait to meet him again. Now, thinking about spending the rest of my life with him, it’s perfect. I can’t think of a day without him.

Surya: It is an amazing feeling. The bond between us has become stronger and more special after marriage.

Let’s do it together

Vrinda:  We both love travelling. Just the thought of exploring new places together excites us and gets us going.

Surya: Spending time together on Sundays, eating out.

If I could change

Vrinda: I love him the way he is...although he sometimes eats too much of sweets, Lindt chocolate being his favourite. He can eat a kg of it.

Surya: I like her the way she is- beautiful, caring, just perfect and above all, mine.

Couple goals be

Vrinda: I feel every couple should respect their partner and accept them the way they are.

Surya: I wish to travel the world with her, explore new cuisines and keep the craziness going.

The one annoying factor

Vrinda: Being a teacher, I have to get up early and it is a little annoying when he watches TV till late night.

Surya: She doesn’t let me watch TV late at night.

Free time means

Vrinda: Sundays is when we get free and we love to do gardening and cooking together (he is a really good cook, lucky me!). And also binge watching TV.

Surya: We love watching movies, cooking, gardening, channelising our creative self by painting pots or decorating our house.

The wow factor

Vrinda: His smile. I was smitten by it 11 years back and am still now.

Surya: The way she loves me and takes care of my family.
