Surjit Singh, alias Dhesi, a resident of Hussainabad, has been suspected by the police as the man behind strangulating and abandoning the body of a minor girl, which was found decomposed some days ago.

The police, in a statement released today, said the girl had been forcing the man – who had come from Italy and went back there after murdering her – to marry her. The accused is currently absconding.

Sucha Singh, a resident of Hussainabad (police station Nakodar), had told the police that his daughter aged 17 left the house on March 8 at 7.30 pm, without informing anybody.

On April 12, the decomposed body of the girl was recovered from an abandoned well situated in the fields of Iqbal Singh, also a resident of Hussainabad.

Proceedings under Section 174 of the IPC were initiated and the body of the girl was handed over to her parents.

From the medical report, it was established that she was murdered by strangulation.

In this regard, an FIR under Sections 302 and 201 of the IPC has been registered at the Nakodar police station.

A police team led by SP (Investigation) Rajveer Singh and ASP (Nakodar sub-division) Vatsala Gupta was constituted.

Upon investigation, it was established that Surjit Singh, who had returned from Italy some time ago, murdered the girl.

The police release stated that the girl used to force him to marry her due to which he manhandled her and strangulated her, throwing her body in an abandoned village in Hussainabad and returned to Italy.

Surjit Singh has been nominated as the accused in the case and further investigation is being initiated, the police said.
