City pugilists shine at state-level c’ship in Phagwara

City-based boxers have won gold medals in the state-level boxing championship held at Phagwara recently.

In the 44-46 kg weight category, Vanshika won a gold medal while Shagun Dogra won a gold medal in the 32-34 kg weight category. Vanshika’s father, who is an electrician, said, “It is indeed a proud moment as my daughter has won the gold in a state-level championship. Vanshika idolises Mary Kom and wants to follow in her footsteps to represent and win medals in the national and international platforms. For that, she has been putting all-out efforts these days.”

Vanshika’s coach Sandeep Kaur said, “She enters the ring like a professional boxer and her target always remains that she dominate her opponent from the very first moment and defeat her.”

Riya Kashyap won gold in the 54-57 kg weight category and in the 60-63 kg weight category, Amanjot Kaur bagged the title, Sandeep Kaur added.
