For casting vote, 11 ID proofs are valid

Inder Jeet, Joint Chief Electoral Officer, Haryana, on Friday said only those voters whose name was in the electoral list could exercise their right to franchise.

“In case the name of the voter appears in the voters’ list but he does not have the electoral photo identity card (EPIC), he can cast vote by showing any of the 11 alternative identity proofs as specified by the Election Commission,” he said.

Inder Jeet said certain false messages were being circulated on the social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook and WhatsApp to misguide people.

The Joint Chief Electoral Officer said those voters who would not be able to produce EPIC could show 11 alternate photo ID proofs to vote. These included passport; driving licence; photo service identity cards issued to the employees by the Centre and state government, public sector undertakings or public limited companies; photo passbook issued by banks or post offices; PAN card; smart card issued by the Registrar General of India; MGNREGA job card; Swasthya Bima Smart Card issued under the scheme of the Labour Ministry; pension documents along with photograph; official identity cards issued to MPs, MLAs/MLCs; and the Aadhaar card. “Apart from this, those voters who have old EPIC can also cast vote provided their names appears in the voters’ list,” he said.
