Four armed miscreants targeted the house of Raju Saini at Rawatsar in Hanumangarh on Thursday night. They fired four rounds, scaled the boundary wall and used bricks to smash the window panes of his house. Raju is a key witness in high-profile murder case of Harbir Saharan, husband of Municipal Council chairperson Neelam Saharan. The miscreants had shot him on September 24, 2018, in the Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s office complex.
Investigation in this case was conducted by encounter expert and Bikaner Range Inspector General of Police Dinesh MN. BJP leader Mohinder Poonia, then chairman of the Central Cooperative Bank, and nine others — two history sheeters and a sharp shooter from Haryana — were arrested in this connection. Neelam had claimed that her husband was shot dead for campaigning in her favour for the Rajasthan Vidhan Sabha elections as she had decided to file nomination papers as an Independent candidate.
Hundred of locals who had assembled at a “jagran” last night staged a protest against the attack.
Additional Superintendent of Police Rajinder Meena today inspected the house. Saini, who had escorted Harbir Saharan to the Civil Hospital after the assault, said he had received WhatsApp calls threatening him of dire consequences a few days ago for deposing in the trial court. He informed the authorities about this.
