The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Thursday released its manifesto for the Lok Sabha elections, urging people to defeat the BJP so that “an alternative secular government can be formed at the Centre.”

CPM senior leader and Theog MLA Rakesh Singha and state secretariat members Kuldip Tanwar and Sanjay Chauhan urged the public to vote out the BJP for its alleged failure to fulfill most promises made during the 2014 General Election. They blamed the Modi government for weakening the democracy. Terming five years of the Modi rule as an “unmitigated disaster for the country and the people”, Singha urged the people to strengthen the Left.

Singha alleged that the Central Government always kept the survey data report on unemployment under wraps. The reason: the unemployment rate was recorded at 7.2 per cent in February, the highest-ever in the country in the last 45 years.

Singha claimed that the party would fight for 7.19 per cent share of Himachal in undivided Punjab in and outside the state, 12 per cent royalty in pre-1990 projects, four-time compensation under factor 2 for farmers who lost one lakh hectare to Central projects, five bighas for farmers and 20 bighas at market rate by seeking an amendment to the Forest Conservation Act and the implementation of the Forest Right Act, 2006.

Singha said the Supreme Court had given its verdict in favour of Himachal to provide Rs 4,600 crore as per its 7.19 per cent share in BBMB projects in 2011. Unfortunately, both the BJP and Congress governments failed to get this amount from Punjab and Haryana, he alleged.

He said their party would push for the expansion of rail network, construction of national highways, and four tunnels at Holi, Pangi, Jalori Jyot and Jogindernagar.

Singha also sought votes for their Mandi candidate Daleep Kaith to bring about positive changes in the constituency.

Party releases manifesto; promises...

  • Push for filling all vacant posts in the govet sector
  • Royalty from forest resources from the Centre
  • Minimum Rs 18,000 salary for all types of workers
  • Old pension scheme
  • Rural link road policy
