Interstate meet held on vigil ahead of polls

Officers of the Interstate Coordination Committee on Thursday held a meeting with various law enforcement agencies in view of the Lok Sabha elections.

Punjab Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) S Karuna Raju and DGP Dinkar Gupta took stock of preparations for elections, besides holding discussions with officers from Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana, Chandigarh and J&K.

ADGP-cum-Nodal Officer, Elections, RN Dhoke, Additional CEOs Kavita Singh, Sibin C and other senior officers were also present.

Interacting with the officers, the CEO said Punjab and neighbouring states should ensure effective setting up of interstate police barriers. He also called for the checking of Volvo buses and trucks entering the state from Delhi. He asked surveillance teams to act proactively against the illegal flow of cash, if any, besides monitoring online transactions.

DGP Gupta said security agencies should remain more vigilant in view of attempts by foreign hands to disrupt law and order of the border state.

Officers from Himachal assured that there would be no smuggling of allopathy medicine, country-made liquor and opium, especially from Baddi and Damtal. Officers from Rajasthan assured that they would strictly check the smuggling of poppy husk and opium. Haryana officials said they had made elaborate arrangements to check the smuggling of illegal arms from UP borders. — TNS
