Finally, residents of Dadu Majra will get relief from stench emanating from the dumping ground as a technical committee of the Chandigarh Smart City Limited (CSCL) has approved the request for proposal (RFP) for mining of legacy waste and recovery of land at an estimated cost of Rs 40 crore.

Sources said the CSCL has decided to seek the permission of the Election Commission of India to float a tender in this regard.

Leachate from the garbage spreads around 20 acres of the total 48 acres of the dumping ground.

Sources said under the RFP, the waste would be processed within a period of 180 days. As per the estimate, around five lakh metric tonnes of legacy waste would be cleared from the ground.

The reclaimed land would be used for dumping. The selected company would produce the RDF from waste. The construction and demolition waste would be used in the C and D plant, which would be constructed in the Industrial Area.

Chandigarh produces 450 metric tonnes of waste daily which goes in the garbage processing plant at Dadu Majra.
