New Delhi, April 17

A minor boy, who has gone missing two years ago, found in a gurdwara and united with his family.

On February 15, 2017, a man reported that his 12-year-old nephew had gone missing. Native of UP, Raju, who was in Class V in a government school in Narela, had been staying with his uncle in Delhi. On February 13, the boy had run away from school, said a police official.

Subsequently, further investigation of the case was transferred to the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit of the Crime Branch. The officials visited Haridwar, Meerut, Mumbai, Roorkee, Kerala, Shamli, Saharanpur, etc., but the child was not found. They declared a reward of Rs 50,000 in this case, the official said.

Yesterday, information was received that the missing boy had been seen near Sisganj Gurdwara here. The team moved swiftly and the child was recovered.

Raju and his family members identified each other. Raju did not allege any maltreatment by anyone. He said he had run away from the school after being reprimanded by his family members for not faring well in studies, the official said.

For the past two years he had been moving from place to place in the city and had finally settled near Sisganj Gurdwara. He would often work, eat and sleep in the gurdwara itself.

A few days ago, a Samaritan had seen the picture of the missing boy pasted at the Old Delhi Railway Station. He informed the police.

The boy was produced before the Child Welfare Committee from where he has now been united with his family, the official added. — TNS
