Khanna, April 17

The arrival and purchase of wheat in Asia’s biggest grain market Khanna was halted due to strong spell of rain in the area.

No arrival was reported today in the grain market and a few heaps of wheat lying for the past few days could not be purchased due to extra moisture.

Due to heavy rain, harvesting may be delayed in the region and the most of grain markets are unoccupied due to the non-arrival of wheat.

The rain has caused damage to some extent to the standing wheat crop.

Secretary of the Market Committee, Khanna, Dalwinder Singh, said last year till April 16, a total of 3,16,980 quintals of wheat was purchased in the grain market, Khanna, but this year only 6,440 quintals has arrived. Most of the wheat arrived here is still lying without purchase due to extra moisture.

Rain continued in the areas, including Khanna, Samrala, Machhiwara and Khamano till the filling of the report.
