Bathinda, April 17

Members of the Adhyapak Sangharsh Committee have urged the SSP to hold a thorough probe into a case in which a teacher was booked for assaulting his colleague last week.

The members of the panel have filed a complaint with the SSP.

In their complaint, they said appropriate action must be taken against the teachers who had failed to give the account of funds collected for panel’s activities.

Notably, the police had registered an FIR against a teacher, Arjan Singh, for assaulting his colleague Resham Singh near Teachers’ Home on April 12.

Representatives of the union, including Swaranjit Singh Bhagta, Jagpal Singh Bangi and Gurjit Singh Jassi, reached the SSP office to file the complaint.

Swaranjit Singh, executive member of the panel, said, “The teacher, who is a member of the panel, was booked by the police without conducting a thorough probe. We demand that a proper investigation should be conducted into the matter so that the real culprit can be punished. The police must check the CCTV footage where the incident took place.”

Gurjit Singh said, “When the account of the funds meant for the panel was sought from a representative of another teachers’ union, he evaded the questions, thereby leading to a verbal altercation on a digital platform and later on a phone call. We demand that apart from finding who assaulted whom, the police must also investigate to find out about the funds collected for panel’s activities as well.”

The members of panel said in their complaint that if the police did not conduct a thorough probe into the matter, they would resort to hold protests in the coming weeks.

On the other hand, members of the Democratic Teachers’ Front said Resham Singh had always been an active participant in the teachers’ struggle for their pending demands, including delayed salaries. They added that there was another faction of teachers which saw him as a competitor and wanted him to sideline.
