Chandigarh, April 17

Jet Airways has temporarily suspended all flights from the Chandigarh airport, beginning tomorrow. The airline was currently operating six flights between Delhi and Chandigarh.

The decision is part of the suspension of all Jet Airways international and domestic flights as the State Bank of India (SBI), on behalf of the consortium of lenders, turned down the airline’s request for emergency funds.

The cash-strapped airline had previously suspended flights operating from Chandigarh to Jaipur and Lucknow as it scaled down its operations. According to a senior employee, Jet Airways was also set to launch a Chandigarh-Mumbai flight, beginning April 26, which will not happen now.

The employee said they had not received any communication from the company regarding the employment status of the staff, who were expected to report to work at the usual time tomorrow.

“The airline will inform all guests about the temporary suspension of flight operations via a text message or email on the contact details listed in their bookings. Jet Airways sincerely and profusely apologises for the disruption in the travel plans of all its guests,” reads a press note issued by Jet Airways.

Gaurav Sahni, GM, Corporate Communications, said the refund process would be initiated for all passengers, who contact the airline. There will be no across-the-board refund proceedings.
