Poppy husk recovered

PHAGWARA: The police arrested a person, identified as Mohan Lal, a resident of Ghumman village, and recovered 2-kg and 250-gm poppy husk from his possession on Tuesday. The Superintendent of Police, Phagwara, Mandeep Singh, said the accused was nabbed at a checkpoint. He was coming on a scooter. The police have impounded the vehicle and registered a case under the NDPS Act. OC

Liquor seized

Phagwara: The police arrested a person allegedly involved in liquor trade. The accused has been identified as Bishnu Thakur, a resident of Shivpuri locality, in Phagwara and recovered two boxes of illicit liquor from his possession on Tuesday night. A case under the Excise Act has been registered against the accused. OC

Minor abducted

Phagwara: A minor girl (17) has been missing from Palahai village since April 14. Her mother, Santosh Kumari, said  she might have been abducted by Sunny of the same village on the pretext of marrying her.  She told the police that her daughter went out on April 14 morning for morning walk but did not return. The family searched for her and contacted their relatives regarding her whereabouts, but to no avail. On the basis of the statement of the victim’s mother, the police have registered a case under Sections 363 and 366-A of the IPC against the accused and are investigating the matter. OC
