Repeated power cuts imposed by the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) in Fazilka town have been causing inconvenience to town residents.

Following the inclement weather and repeated spells of rain during the last few days, the power supply has worsened. “If rain pours for few minutes, power supply is snapped for many hours,” say residents.

Beopar Mandal president Ashok Gulbadhar has said the shopkeepers are at the receiving end as their business is adversely affected in the absence of power. He urged the authorities concerned to ensure regular power supply.

Besides, the PSPCL has failed to restore the hotline power supply to the local civil hospital. The hotline power was disconnected about three weeks ago, following the construction of underbridge on the Court road railway crossing as the cables were passing over the crossing and had to be removed for hassle-free construction.

Uninterrupted and round-the-clock power is supplied to the hospital through the hotline to fulfil the emergency requirements.

Currently, the power is supplied to the hospital through the town feeder. But, whenever power cuts are imposed, the power supply to the civil hospital is also disconnected, causing inconvenience to the patients. Important tests like CT scan and X-rays could not be conducted in the hospital for want of power supply.

PSPCL SDO Vikram Kamboj said the hotline supply would be restored soon.
