To counter any adverse impact of “infighting” on the Congress’ poll prospects, Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh today told MLAs and district unit heads that they would be responsible for mobilising support in favour of official party candidate in their respective parliamentary constituency.

Amid resentment among a section of unsuccessful ticket seekers and their supporters, the message to the party rank and file came during the first in its series of seat-wise meetings held at Anandpur Sahib today.

While the Chief Minster interacted with the MLAs of nine Assembly segments and other leaders, an election monitoring committee under PPCC senior vice president Lal Singh engaged in parleys with disgruntled leaders.

With several slots of political appointments still vacant, the senior leadership is resorting to carrot-and-stick policy to woo leaders of pressure groups. A senior leader said being well aware of the problematic factors in Anandpur Sahib, Patiala, Sangrur, Gurdaspur and other seats, the war room set up at the PPCC headquarters is in the process of identifying and managing different pressure groups in each of the 13 segments.
