World’s ‘oldest’ woman to get pacemaker dies at ‘118’

Kartar Kaur, who recently earned the distinction of being the world’s “oldest woman to get pacemaker” at the age of 118 years, died here on Tuesday.

As per the family, Kartar Kaur was born in 1895, which makes her age 124 years. However, in the hospital record, her age was mentioned as 118 years.

Harinder Singh Sangha, alias Bittu, grandson of Kartar Kaur, said she had recovered from illness after undergoing surgery to implant pacemaker at SPS Hospital, Ludhiana, but she quietly died on Tuesday morning. “I had gone to Dubai for some official work and as soon as I got the news, I immediately came back,” said Bittu.

Congress MLA Parminder Singh Pinki, who is married to Kartar Kaur’s granddaughter Inderjit Kaur, said “Bebeji”( as she was popularly known) had never been to doctor all her life and enjoyed a very healthy and peaceful life for more than a century. — OC
