Demonetisation: CBDT asks taxman to dispose of cases by June 30

NEW DELHI: As around 80,000 assesees failed to respond to I-T notices against their return on the money they deposited during demonetisation period, which did not match their financial profile, the CBDT has fixed June 30 for completion of their assessment. Sources said, with a view to take appropriate action against “struck off” companies, the Income tax Department is set to approach the National Company Law Tribunal during the April-June quarter to seek their restoration.
