Sleuths of 29 Battalion of the BSF arrested a smuggler and seized two packets of heroin (1.69 kg) worth Rs 7.5 crore near the Lakha Singh Wala border out post (BOP) in this sector.

BSF officials said around 10 pm on Sunday, jawans deputed at the BOP observed suspicious movement of two Pakistani smugglers near the barbed wire fencing. At the same time, the movement of two or three persons was observed on the Indian side. When the Pakistani smugglers reached close to the fence and started throwing something, the BSF troops challenged them but the accused did not pay any heed, following which the jawans opened fire.

Pakistani smugglers managed to escape but when the Indian smugglers tried to flee, the BSF troops immediately cordoned off the area and arrested one of them. He has been identified as Kashmir Singh of Old Barreke village.

Later during a search, two packets of heroin weighing 1.69 kg were recovered near the fence.
