Truck driver robbed of Rs 12K, 2 held

A truck driver, who was travelling with his family, was robbed of Rs 12,000 by four youths near Kalpi bridge in the Mullana area of Ambala in the wee hours today. The victim has been identified as Rakesh Saini, a resident of Saharanpur.

Rakesh told the police that he was on his way towards Punjab with his wife, four children and a brother to attend a marriage function. When they reached near the Kalpi bridge around 1 am, some youths travelling in a black car overtook them and stopped their car in front of the truck.

The suspects impersonated as CIA officials and asked the victim to show his identity card. When the victim asked the reason, one of the suspects asked the other suspect to bring the pistol. Meanwhile, some more vehicles stopped there. Two suspects started manhandling the victim’s brother and snatched Rs 12,000 form him.

However, two suspects were nabbed on the spot with the help of people, who had gathered there. The suspects were identified as Jaidev of Thambar village and Gurvidner Singh of Mullana, while two others, who managed to flee, were identified as Madan and Jony. The nabbed suspects were thrashed by people there.

A case has been registered under Section 379-B of the IPC. The suspects were produced before a court, which sent them to two-day police remand. — TNS
