Mayoral polls by month-end

Mayoral elections in the three BJP-ruled municipal corporations in Delhi will be held in month-end and filing of nominations would close on April 18. This time the mayoral seat is reserved for the SC category.

The polls for the posts of mayor, deputy mayor and three members of the standing committee of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation will be held on April 26 while mayoral polls in East and North Delhi Municipal Corporations are scheduled for April 29.

As per the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act, the elections of mayor and deputy mayor from among the councillors of the three civic bodies are held for an annual tenure when the House first meets every year.

Spread across the five year, the mayor election in the first year is reserved for women, the second would be for open category, third for reserved category, and the remaining two also being in open category. In Delhi, the polls were held in the open category last year.
