Sculptures that express pain

Muktsar: Manjit Singh Sahoke, an assistant professor of fine arts at Dasmesh Girls College of Education, Badal village here, has paid tributes to the martyrs of Jallianwala Bagh massacre through sand sculptures. He has made these sculptures of martyrs and Colonel Reginald Dyer on some sand dunes at Badal village by putting in hard labour for four days. The locals are calling the spot a “martyrs’ memorial”. Sahoke has fixed 100 iron nails in the sculpture of Dyer, whom he has given the look of a devil, to mark the 100th anniversary of the bloodshed.

Riding on bus service to up enrolment

Chandigarh: The facility of transport in government schools is unheard of in the state. Eyeing an increase in enrolments, Government Co-educational Multipurpose Senior Secondary School, Passi Road, Patiala, has started a bus service for students of pre-school till Class XII. The bus will run mainly in the peripheral areas of the city. A welcome change.

CNG 24X7 in Fatehgarh Sahib

Fatehgarh Sahib: The district got the state’s first online CNG filling station on the Delhi-Amritsar National Highway (NH-44). It was inaugurated at Dasmesh HP Centre, Harbanspura, near here, by Bharat Inder Singh Chahal, Adviser to the Chief Minister. The project has been set up on the CNG gas pipeline by IRM energy at a cost of Rs 2.5 crore. Commuters from other states visiting Punjab face problems in get CNG for their vehicles. Now, gas will be available round the clock at this station. 

Kites for election awareness

Barnala: To motivate voters, the Barnala district administration on Sunday organised a kite fest at Baba Kala Mehar Stadium under the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programme. Participants were given kites with voter awareness slogans written on it. District Election Officer-cum- Deputy Commissioner (DC) Tej Partap Singh Phoolka said the kite fest was organised to spread poll awareness among the voters. Besides the kite fest, the administration also encouraged the voters at a local shopping mall with the help of some Punjabi singers and actors, including Pammi Bai, Karamjit Anmol, Hobby Dhaliwal, Parkash and Rupinder Rupi.
