Anandpur Sahib, April 14

The Dal Khalsa and its youth wing Sikh Youth of Punjab released the Nanakshahi calendar here on Sunday.

Claiming it to be as original Nanakshahi calendar, party president Paramjit Singh Mand said it was party’s attempt to step up its campaign to restore the original Nanakshahi calendar.

The year 551 calendar in its original form was designed and prepared by Canada-based Pal Singh Purewal, accepted by the SGPC general house and ratified by the Akal Takht Sahib in March-April 2003, but debunked by the SGPC executive in 2010, he said.

Talking to mediapersons, he said, “The Nanakshahi calendar is a manifestation of the distinct identity. We view the SGPC made amendments as abject surrender in the face of the expansionist designs of RSS leaders aiming to subsume the Sikh religion.”
