Chandigarh: About 10 trains have been cancelled and another 2 diverted as track-doubling work is underway at some stations in the Lucknow Division of the Railways. The trains that have been cancelled include Train Nos. 22356 and 22355, which are express trains that ply between Patliputra and Chandigarh. Other trains that have been cancelled include Amritsar-Howrah Express, Ambala Cantt-Barauni Express and Saharanpur-Allahabad Express. The track-doubling work is concentrated in the Utrathia, Monhanlalganj, Kankaha and Shriranjnagar railway stations that lie between Lucknow and Raebareli. TNS

Thieves strike at Sector 7 house 

Chandigarh: A theft incident was reported from a house in Sector 7 on the intervening night of April 11 and 12. According to the police, an unidentified person decamped with a laptop, a hard disk and a bag containing clothes and Rs 5,000 from the house. A case has been registered at the Sector 26 police station. TNS

Cash stolen from shop

Chandigarh: The police have arrested a person for stealing money from the cash box of a chemist shop in Sector 16. According to the police, complainant Parminder Singh said Sumit, a resident of Sector 23, had stolen the money from the cash drawer of his shop on April 12. A case was registered.  TNS

2 Mohali youths held with heroin

Chandigarh: The crime branch of the UT police has nabbed two drug peddlers with 40.10 grams of heroin.  A team of the crime branch, led by Inspector Amanjot Singh, nabbed Rajan Kumar (24) of MC houses, Industrial Area, Phase IX, Mohali, while possessing 20.10 grams of heroin. He was arrested at Sector 47 on April 12. A case has been registered against him at the Sector 31 police station. In another incident, the police arrested Balbir Singh (29), a resident of Kaimbwala village in Mohali district, with 20 grams of heroin near the Sports Complex, Sector 50. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered against him at the Sector 49 police station. TNS

Thrashed, woman miscarries baby

Chandigarh: A woman and her daughter have been booked for thrashing their pregnant neighbour, following which the victim suffered a miscarriage. The incident took place at Kajheri village. According to the police, the victim, Mamta, had an argument with Phoolmati and her daughter on April 10. It is alleged that the duo thrashed the victim, following which she was admitted to the GMSH-16 where her pregnancy got terminated. On her complaint, a case under Sections 315 (act done with intent to prevent child being born alive or to cause it to die after birth) and 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) of the IPC has been registered against the mother-daughter duo at the Sector 36 police station.
