New Delhi, April 12
Members of the Delhi University Students' Union met Vice Chancellor Prof Yogesh Tyagi and put forth their 10 demands, including timely declaration of re-evaluation and re-checking results, starting a centralised hostel admission process and formation of a committee that looks into the probable options of conducting supplementary examination. They have warned of agitation if their demands are not met.
They also demanded the creation of new reading halls, construction of hostels and tactile pathway facilities for the differently abled students, setting up a 24x7 library, increasing dietary allowance for sports students and availability of a gynaecologist and counsellor in every college.
It was the first meeting of DUSU-led by ABVP with the VC in the last eight months since it was elected last September and Prof Tyagi is learnt to have assured the delegation that the demands would be met at the earliest.
DUSU president Shakti Singh said if all their demands are not met the DUSU will be forced to give a call for student stir in the university. “Earlier, a student delegation had met Registrar, Proctor and other university officials over these demands. University officials did accept a few of them, but never implemented them,” he claimed.
"They have assured us on most issues and four of them would be immediately implemented," said ABVP's Delhi state secretary Sidharth Yadav adding that they have warned of a larger protest if promises are not kept this time.
