Karnal, April 11

The Department of Women and Child Development has terminated the services of Raj Singh Sangwan, manager of the child care institute in Madhuban, in connection with 24 children having fled the institute a few days back.

The action was initiated on the recommendation of Jyoti Bainda, chairperson of the Haryana State Commission for Protection of Child Rights. The incident was highlighted in these columns on April 9.

“The department has terminated the services of Sangwan for child cruelty and irregularities in maintaining documents,” said Bainda over phone. She said during her visit, she had recorded the statements of all children, who levelled serious allegations against Sangwan. The children had accused the manager of forcing them to do physical labour, beating them up brutally and trying to crush them under his vehicle. The Child Welfare Committee had already recommended an FIR against Sangwan. Despite several attempts, he could not be contacted for comment.
