West Indies are replete with match-winners but consistency will be key to their success in English conditions at this year's World Cup, batting great Brian Lara has said.  “We have got match-winners, but we are going to need a little more than match-winners in English conditions to win the World Cup. We need a team that can create consistency. If we can get to the knockout stages, we can knock out any team. But consistency is going to take us right through to the final,” he added.

Goa enter Super Cup final with 3-0 win over Chennai 

FC Goa beat I-League champions Chennai City FC 3-0 in the first semifinal of the Super Cup. Ferran Corominas (26th and 35th minutes) scored a brace, while Brandon Fernandes scored their third in the 70th minute.

Anand draws with Topalov, finishes joint fourth

Viswanathan Anand ended his campaign with a draw against former World Championship challenger Veselin Topalov of Bulgaria in the ninth round of Shamkir Chess tournament. Magnus Carlsen stamped his authority on the tournament with a win over Alexander Grischuk of Russia in the final round. Carlsen finished with seven points, winning his fourth title in as many attempts here.

Chenai fails to qualify for trap final in shooting WC

Kynan Chenai fought valiantly before suffering a shoot-off heartbreak that put paid to his chances of making the final of the men's trap event at the ISSF World Cup Shotgun stage in Al Ain, UAE. The Hyderabad lad shot a creditable 122 out of 125 in the qualifying round, given the high level of shooting, found himself in a seven-man shoot-off for the last two final slots. Chenai missed his eighth shoot-off target to finish seventh overall, thereby allowing his Thai and Chinese opponents to bag the fifth and sixth slots, respectively.

Reigning Olympics champion Josip Glasnovic of Croatia shot a perfect 125 to equal the world record and top the qualification charts. Prithviraj Tondaiman and Zoravar Singh Sandhu finished 37th and 72nd with scores of 120 and 117, respectively.

Om Nath cricket: Alert academy in quarterfinals 

Sameer Chaudhary (65) and Prashant Bhandari (39) helped Alert Cricket Academy beat Swami Shardanand College by 120 runs and enter the quarterfinals of the 29th All India Om Nath Sood Memorial cricket tournament.

Pele back in Brazil

Brazilian football legend Pele arrived back in his homeland today after a six-day hospital stay in France. The three-time World Cup winner was discharged from a Paris hospital late Monday after treatment for a urinary infection following an appearance at a promotional event in the French capital with France striker Kylian Mbappe. Pele left the Sao Paulo-Guarulhos airport in Brazil in a wheelchair and was taken away in a van. AFP
