MC chief launches cleanliness campaign at Burlton Park

JALANDHAR: As many as 350 students, along with Diparva Lakra,Commissioner, Municipal Corporation,Jalandhar, and Joint Commissioner, Aashika Jain and other MC officials, today launched a cleanliness drive at Burlton Park and removed the plastic bags, disposable or other material from the park.

As many as 350 students, along with Diparva Lakra,Commissioner, Municipal Corporation,Jalandhar, and Joint Commissioner, Aashika Jain and other MC officials, today launched a cleanliness drive at Burlton Park and removed the plastic bags, disposable or other material from the park.

Lakra said: “The purpose behind the cleanliness drive was to make the Burlton Park area a plastic-free zone.”

She said the health of the residents was at risk due to the continuous use of plastic. Hence, the decision to make Burlton Park a plastic-free zone has been taken as a first step in making the city free from plastic.

She said the main aim of the campaign was to make people aware of the bad effects of plastics. The campaign would continue in future as well.

“The Civic Body will use the services of NSS volunteers, NCC cadets and NGOs to create awareness among public so that the menace can be eradicated from the city,” said Lakra.

MC Commissioner said: “Oficials of the Civic Body have been urged to keep the endeavour alive by carrying the campaign in residential areas as well.”

“The civic bodies will rope in the people from all walks of life to change the picture of the Burlton park and keep a vigil on the burning of garbage at the dump site as it creates a lot of pollution,” added Lakra.

She appreciated the participation of 350 students and volunteers of National Service Scheme (NSS); cadets of National Cadet Corps (NCC) from DAV Institute of Engineering and Technology (DAVIET);Mehr Chand Polytechnic College and DAV College.
